John Woods

 

Washington County, Tennessee,was established in 1777 as Washington County, North Carolina. From 1784 to 1788,it was part of the State of Franklin.

John Woods was born about 1770.

He married Elizabeth Hughes. Elizabeth was the daughter of William Hughes.

John married Elizabeth Carson in 1807. She divorced him because he had become involved with her sister, Agnes Hughes Torbett. Divorce records in Washington County, Tennessee say that Elizabeth Carson Woods, who married John Woods in January, 1807 divorced him in 1812.

He married Agnes Hughes Torbett in 1812. Agnes was the daughter of William Hughes.

Agnes and William's children included:

Alexander T. Woods
Levi Woods (1813),
Uriah Woods
Delilah Woods (1817, married John Alexander).

At the time of the 1830 census, John and David were in Piney Flats, Sullivan County, Tennessee.

John died after the 1830 census. He was buried at New Bethel Cemetery (Presbyterian?) in Piney Flats, Sullivan County, Tennessee.

Agnes Woods, age 72, appeared on the census in 1850 in Sullivan County, Tennessee in the household of her son, Levi Wood.
